2023
-
The Ottawa REDBLACKS fail to win a game within their division, going 0-10. The last Ottawa team to achieve this dubious feat was the winless 1932 Ottawa Rough Riders.
-The senior Ottawa Sooners team returns to the Northern Football Conference.

2022
-The Ottawa REDBLACKS fail to win a home game throughout the entire season, the first such occurrence for pro team in this city since 1934. Head Coach Paul Lapolice is replaced with four games left in the season by special teams coordinator Bob Dyce.

2021
-At the end of October, and with the team at 2-9, the Ottawa REDBLACKS relieve General Manager Marcel Desjardins of his duties. In December, the team hires Shawn Burke as the second person to fill that role.
-The Ottawa Sooners, dormant for two seasons, are sold to Kevin Ling who plans to resume play in 2022.

2020
-uOttawa Head Coach Jamie Barresi leaves the program and is replaced by Marcel Bellefeuille.

2019
-The Ottawa Jr. Riders win a second consecutive QJFL Championship, their ninth overall.

2018
-The Ottawa Jr. Riders win the QJFL Championship, their first since 2010 and eighth overall.
-The Ottawa Invaders are adopted into the Sooners program and continue to play in the Northern Football Conference as a senior semi-pro club.

2017
- After a period of inactivity from 2014 to 2017, the Ottawa Jr. Riders return to the Quebec Junior Football League. 

2016

-The Ottawa REDBLACKS capture the Grey Cup, bringing the trophy to the capital for the first time since 1976.

2015
-The Ottawa REDBLACKS participate in the Grey Cup for the first time in their existence.
-The Carleton Ravens win their first playoff game, defeating Queen's in Kingston by a score of 39-08, since returning to the field in 2013. 

2014
-The Ottawa REDBLACKS finally take the field, six years after the conditional franchise was awarded.

-The Carleton Ravens football program take the field for the first time since 1998.

-U. of O. Gee-Gees quarterback Brad Sinopoli wins the Hec Crighton trophy awarded to the most outstanding Canadian football player in USports.


-The Cumberland Panthers varsity team wins their conference and reaches the Ontario Varsity Football League's championship game for the first time in their existence.
-The Ottawa Jr Riders defeat the Chateauguay Raiders 10-00 in a snow storm to claim the Joe Pistilli Cup, a re-named QJFL championship trophy.

2009
-The Ottawa Sooners announce that they are leaving the Quebec Junior Football League for the Ontario Football Conference.  They would later defeat St. Leonard in the Conference Championship game.
-St. Peter High School's senior boys win the National Capital Bowl for the second time, the first coming in 2005. The Knights defeated Crestwood 37-22.
-A new semi-pro team, the Ottawa Invaders, is established and accepted into the Northern Football Conference.

2008
-Canadian Football League Commissioner Mark Cohon is joined by Roger Greenberg, John Ruddy, Bill Shenkman and Jeff Hunt at Lansdowne Park as he announces that a conditional franchise has been awarded to Ottawa. The condition is that the foursome needs to secure a deal with the city for the use of a suitable stadium for the franchise.
-The Ottawa Jr Riders win the QJFL's Manson Cup over the Chateauguay Raiders for their third straight championship.


2007
-In September, Ottawa mayor Larry O'Brien reveals that a local group is investigating the possibility of restoring a professional football franchise in Ottawa as part of a proposal to recevelop Lansdowne Park.  The group is later revealed to be Roger Greenberg (chairman and CEO of Minto Developments), John Ruddy (president of Trinity Development Group) and William Shenkman (chairman of Shenkman Corp).  They are represented by Ottawa 67's owner and president Jeff hunt.
-The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees are undefeated in the regular season (8-0), but upset in the first round of playoffs.  QB Josh Sacobie is named the OUA's Most Valuable Player.
-The Ottawa Jr Riders win the Manson Cup (QJFL Championship game) defeating their in-town rivals, the Ottawa Sooners.

2006
-In April, following a dispute in regards to how cost will be shared between owners Bernie Glieberman and Bill Smith, the Canadian Football League announces that the Ottawa Renegades will suspend operations due to an inability to find proper ownership in time for the regular season.
-The Ottawa Gee-Gees win the Yates Cup, becoming champions of the OUA, by defeating Laurier 32-14 at home.
-The Ottawa Jr Riders return to the Quebec Junior Football League and take the league's title by defeating Chateauguay 19-02.  The Ottawa teams finish first, second (Sooners) and third (Panthers) in the nine-team league standings.
-St. Mark High School's senior league defeat the Frontenac Lions 10-08 to claim the school's first National Capital Bowl.

2005
-For lack of a better option, the Gliebermans are given the keys to the Ottawa CFL franchise by the league.  They claim to be seeking to fix past wrongs and that they'll be involved "for the long haul".  Bill Smith, a member of the original ownership group, remains as a minority owner.
-St. Peter High School's senior boys win the National Capital Bowl, becoming the first team from the NCSSAA to do so, by defeating Sydenham 24-10.


2004
-The city of Ottawa hosts a successful 92nd Grey Cup game featuring Toronto and BC.
-The Cumberland Panthers enter a club in the Quebec Junior Football League.

2003
-The Montreal Condors, a semi-pro team, move to Ottawa.  They are renamed the Deacon Demons and compete in the Empire Football League, the same league in which the Ottawa Bootleggers previously belonged.

2002
-The reincarnation of CFL football in Ottawa, in the form of the Renegades, takes to the field for the first time. They finish their inaugural campaign with a 4-14 record.
-Earlier in the year, the Renegades make history by drafting Alexandre Gauthier, the first French Canadian to be chosen first overall in the Canadian College Draft.
-Seeking the ability to play for a National Championship, the Ottawa Jr Riders move to the Canadian Junior Football League.
-The Ottawa Sooners win their third Quebec Major Junior Football League championship.

2001
-In August, a group led by Brad Watters submits a bid for a Canadian Football League franchise in Ottawa.  The bid is officially approved in October.
-The Ottawa Sooners win their second Quebec Major Junior Football League championship.

2000
-The Ottawa Gee-Gee's defeat The University of Regina 42-39 to win their second Vanier Cup.  Quarterback Phil Coté is named the Outstanding Player while Scott Gordon is named outstanding Defensive Player.
-The Ottawa Jr Riders three-peat, defeating the North Shore Broncos 28-22 for their third Quebec Major Junior Football League championship.
-The National Capital Bowl is played for the first time as the Centennial Chargers defeat the Ashbury Colts 43-07.

1999
-Former Ottawa Rough Rider Conredge Holloway is inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-Carleton University's football program is terminated after 53 years due to a lack of desire to provide additional funding.
-The Ottawa Jr Riders earn their second Quebec Major Junior Football League Championship.

1998
-The Ottawa Jr Riders win their first Quebec Major Junior Football League championship.

1997
-Former University of Ottawa slotback Rocky Dipietro enters the Hall of Fame on the strength of a very successful pro career with Hamilton.
-The University of Ottawa qualify for the Vanier Cup by defeating the university of Waterloo 44-37.  They'll go on to lose the Vanier Cup game to the University of British Columbia 39-23,  however Ottawa will later be found to have used ineligible players, and their playoff victory is stricken from the records.
-The Ottawa Sooners win their first Quebec Major Junior Football League championship.

1996
-The Ottawa Rough Riders fold after many years of poor management and inept ownership.
-Former Rough Rider Jerry "Soupy" Campbell is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-For cost-related reasons, the Ottawa Sooners leave the Canadian Junior Football League for the Quebec Major Junior Football League.
-Carleton University's Sean O'Neill wins the Russ Jackson Award as university football's player who best demonstrates quality in athletics, academics and community involvement.

1995
-Horn Chen purchases the Ottawa Rough Riders.
-Carleton University's Harry Van Hofwegen wins the J.P. Metras Trophy as university football's top down lineman.

1994
-In February, Bruce Firestone purchases the Ottawa Rough Riders from Bernie Glieberman.
-Former Rough Riders quarterback Tom Clements is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, as is former defensive halfback Gene Gaines.

1993
-Former Rough Riders receiver Whitman (Whit) Tucker is inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-The Ottawa Bootleggers of the Empire Football League cease operations.

1992
-Rough Rider Rob Smith is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman.
-The Ottawa Sooners, coached by former Rough Riders great Greg Marshall, win their fourth National Championship of junior football by defeating the Surrey Rams 35-18.

1991
-The Rough Riders Board of Directors resigns in July, leaving the league to run the club.  In October, the team is purchased by Bernie Glieberman, who promptly appoints his 22-year old son Lonie to the post of president.

1990
-Rough Riders running back Reggie Barnes is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie.

1989
-Former Rough Riders running back Dave Thelen is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-The Ottawa Bootleggers go undefeated during the regular season and reach Minor League Football Alliance championship game, losing to the Racine (Wisconsin) Raiders.

1988
-Rough Rider running back Orville Lee is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie.
-The Ottawa Bootleggers begin play in the Empire Football League.
-Ottawa hosts the Grey Cup game in front of 50,604 spectators.

1986
-The Canadian Inter-University Athletic Union (CIAU) creates an award named after Russ Jackson to be  presented annually to the football player who best exemplifies the attributes of academic achievement, football skill and citizenship in honour of the Hall of Famer.
-An agreement is reached to transfer ownership of the Ottawa Rough Riders to a local group.

1985
-Carleton University wins the Ontario Quebec Intercollegiate Football Conference by beating Concordia 46-21.
-Carleton University's Mark Brown wins the Peter Gorman Award as university football's top rookie.

1984
-Ottawa Rough Rider Tony Gabriel is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of fame.
-The Ottawa Sooners defeat the Richmond Raiders 46-23 to win their third  junior football National Championship.

1983
-Rough Rider Rudy Phillips is chosen as the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman and Greg Marshall is named Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
-Carleton University's Jim DeSilva wins the J.P. Metras Trophy as university football's top down lineman.

1982
-Skip Walker sets a Rough Rider record for touchdowns in a season with 18.
-Rough Rider Chris Isaac is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie, Rudy Phillips is chosen as the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

1981
-Former Rough Riders Coach Frank Clair is elected to the Hall of Fame under the builder category.
-Despite losing the game to Edmonton 26-23, quarterback JC Watts is named Grey Cup Offensive MVP.
-The Ottawa Trojans Midget program wins its first championship in only its second year of operation, defeating the Toronto Steelers 29-21.
-The Dukes of Gloucester midget football program is established.

1980
-The University of Ottawa defeats Acadia University 28-08 to reach the Vanier Cup National Championship Game, in which they fall to the University of Alberta 40-21.

1979
-The Ottawa Sooners win their second junior football National Championship by defeating the Regina Rams by a score of 13-09.

1978
-Former Rough Riders lineman Kaye Vaughn is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-Rough Riders receiver Tony Gabriel is named the league's Most Outstanding Player and Outstanding Canadian while Jim Coode is named the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

1977
-Broadcaster Alan Waters purchases the Rough Riders from David Loeb.
-Former Rough Riders running back Ron Stewart is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-Rough Rider Tony Gabriel is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Player.

1976
-The Ottawa Rough Riders win their ninth Grey Cup, defeating Saskatchean 23-20.  Tom Clements'  game-winning touchdown throw to Tony Gabriel in the dying seconds of the game is largely considered the greatest moment in team history. Gabriel is named Most Valuable Canadian, Clements is named Outstanding Player.
-Former Rough Riders offensive end Bob Simpson is elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-The University of Ottawa defeats Bishop's 22-20 to win the Yates Cup.

1975
-Rough Riders quarterback Tom Clements is named the league's Most Outstanding Rookie, Head Coach George Brancato is named Coach of the Year, and Jim Foley is named Most Outstanding Canadian.
-The University of Ottawa defeats The University of Calgary 14-09 to win their first Vanier Cup.

1974
-The Ottawa Sooners win the Junior Football National Championship by defeating the Vancouver Meralomas 17-04.
-The Myers Riders football program is established.

1973
-Former Ottawa Rough Rider Russ Jackson is inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
-The Ottawa Rough Riders win their eighth Grey Cup, defeating Edmonton 22-18.  Defensive end Charlie Brandon is named MVP.
-Ottawa Rough Riders Head Coach Jack Gotta is named the CFL's Coach of the Year and Jerry Organ is named Outstanding Canadian.
-The first championship game between the Ottawa school board and Carleton school board take place. St. Pius defeats Hillcrest 31-07. 

1972
-Ottawa Rough Riders Head Coach Jack Gotta is named the CFL's Coach of the Year.

1971
-Carleton University moves into the Ontario University Athletic Association.

1970
-The University of Ottawa defeats the University of New Brunswick 24-13 to reach the Vanier Cup Championship game, which they lose to the University of Manitoba 38-11.

1969
-The Ottawa Rough Riders win their seventh Grey Cup, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 29-11.  Quarterback Russ Jackson is named Outstanding Player.
-Rough Riders quarterback Russ Jackson receives the award for Most Outstanding Canadian, as well as the award for Most Outstanding Player.  Frank Clair is named Coach of the Year.
-Rough Riders Head Coach Frank Clair retires from coaching, becoming the team's General Manager.

1968
-The Ottawa Rough Riders win their sixth Grey Cup, defeating Calgary 24-21.  Running back Vic Washington is named the game's Outstanding Player.
-Rough Rider Ken Lehmann is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman.

1967
-The University of Ottawa defeats Laurentian 91-0, the largest margin of victory in OUA history.
-The city of Ottawa hosts its first neutral site Grey Cup game in which Saskatchewan loses to Hamilton 24-1.  Attendance is recorded as 31,358, a record at the time.
-St. Patrick's college, a frequent opponent of the Carleton Ravens, is incorporated into Carleton University.

1966
-Rough Riders quarterback Russ Jackson receives the Schenley award as the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian, as well as the league's award for Most Outstanding Player.  Frank Clair is named CFL Coach of the Year.
-uOttawa defeats Bishop's to win its the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship.

1965
-uOttawa defeats St. Patrick's College to earn its fifth Ottawa-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship in seven years. 

1964
-Former Ottawa Rough Rider Tony Golab is inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

1963
-Rough Riders quarterback Russ Jackson receives the award for the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian, as well as the league's award for Most Outstanding Player.
-uOttawa defeats Bishop's to earn their third Ottawa-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship in four seasons.

1961
-uOttawa defeats Loyola to successfully defend its Ottawa-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship

1960
-Ottawa Rough Rider Ron Stewart sets a CFL single game rushing record with 287 yards on 15 carries against Montreal.
-The Ottawa Rough Riders win their fifth Grey Cup, defeating Edmonton 16-06.  Running Back Ron Stewart is named the game's Outstanding Player and the league's Most Outstanding Canadian.
-uOttawa wins seven  straight regular game and a single-game elimination playoff contest against Loyola College to win the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship.  
-The Ottawa Sooners begin play.

1959
-Rough Rider quarterback Russ Jackson is named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian.

1958
-The first Canadian Football game played on American soil takes place at Philadelphia's Franklin Field as Hamilton defeats the Ottawa Rough Riders 13-7.

1956
-Frank Clair begins his legendary 14-year run as Head Coach of the Ottawa Rough Riders.
-Rough Rider Kaye Vaughn wins the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman award.

1955
-The National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) is established.
-The first Panda Game between the University of Ottawa and Carleton University is played.  Carleton wins 14-06.


1952
-The Carleton University football program is reinstated.
-The four-team Ottawa-Hull Junior Football League is launched. The St-Anthony's club capture the league's first championship. 


1951
-The Ottawa Rough Riders play an exhibition game, at home, against the New York Giants of the NFL, losing 38-06.
-The Ottawa Rough Riders defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 21-14 to win their fourth Grey Cup.


 -Carleton University does not field a team due to a lack of funding.

1950
-The Ottawa Rough Riders play an exhibition game, at home, against the New York Giants of the NFL, losing 20-06.

1948
-In March, the Ottawa Trojans, ORFU champions in 1947, merge with the Ottawa Rough Riders.
-The Ottawa Rough Riders are defeated in the Grey Cup championship Game 12-07 by Calgary.
-The Carleton College football program adopts the name "Ravens".

1947
-The Ottawa Trojans professional team win the Ontario Rugby Football Union championship by defeating the Hamilton Wildcats 15-03.

1945
-Carleton College plays its first-ever organized game featuring 36 World War II veterans-turned-students. They lose 15-00 to Macdonald College from Ste. Anne de Bellevue, QC.  The team is known as The Originals.
-Ashbury College begins regular competition against Bishop's for the Old Boys Cup. It would be played until roughly 1976, often as a two-game, home-and-away total points series.

1943
-The Ottawa Combines begin play in the Ontario Rugby Football Union. They would change their name to Trojans the following season.

1940
-The Ottawa Rough Riders bring home the city's third Grey Cup, defeating Toronto Balmy Beach 08-02 and 12-05 in a two-game series.

1939
-The Ottawa Rough Riders lose the Grey Cup championship Game to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 08-07.
-Gladstone defeats teams from Montreal and Hamilton to earn the city's first Eastern Junior football championship.

1934
-In April, a long-delayed (due to weather) 1933 EOSSA championship game was played between Glebe and Carleton Place. Glebe brought it home for the second consecutive year, 30-00. They then won the 1934 edition in the fall against Smiths Falls 10-05 after defeating St. Patrick's in the first-ever playoff game for the local senior high school football title. 

1931
-The six-team Junior City Football League is formed. A team from St. Patrick's College earns the league's first championship.
-Ottawa U. beats Kingston collegiate for the EOSSA championship.

1927
-The University of Ottawa returns to the playing field.

1926
-The Ottawa Senators / Rough Riders win their second Grey Cup, defeating the University of Toronto 10-07.

1925
-The Ottawa Senators / Rough Riders win their first Grey Cup, defeating the Winnipeg Tammany Tigers 24-01.

1923
-A team from the Rideau Aquatic Club wins the city league championship then defeats Westmount 12-08 in a two-game series to secure the Quebec Rugby Football Union junior title.

1919
-The IRFU is restored, with the Ottawa club returning to the union.

1916
-The IRFU suspends operations during World War One.

1913
-Following a dispute with the Intercollegiate Union in regards to the result of a game against Queen's, Ottawa College and the Rough Riders combine to form one team within the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union (Big Four). There would not be a specific University of Ottawa team again until 1927.

1909
-The Rough Riders defeat Hamilton 14-08 to earn the Interprovincial Union championship.
-On December 11, following an invitation from the New York Herald newspaper, Hamilton Tigers and Ottawa Rough Riders played an exhibition game of Canadian football in New York City at Van Cortland Park. The Tigers won 11-6 before 15,000 fans.

1907
-The Interprovincial Rugby Football Union (Big Four) grew out of an amalgamation between the Hamilton Tigers and Toronto Argonauts of the ORFU, and the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Montreal Football Club of the QRFU on September 13.  The Ottawa entry was the result of the amalgamation of St. Patrick's and Rough Riders.
-The University of Ottawa, led by Father William Stanton, win the Intercollegiate Championship.

1905
-The University of Ottawa joins the Intercollegiate Union. They are replaced in the Quebec Union by an entry from St. Patrick's.

1903
-The Rough Riders move to the Quebec Rugby Football Union, replacing the Brockville team, and win that league's championship.


1902
-The Rough Riders win the Ontario Rugby Football Union championship then carry on to win the Dominion Championship.

1900
-The Rough Riders take the Canadian Rugby Union championship by beating Brockville 17-10.

1898

-The Ottawa Football Club is reorganized and joins the Ontario Rugby Football Union as the name "Rough Riders" begins to make its presence felt. They defeat Ottawa College 11-01 at the Metropolitan Grounds to win the Dominion Football championship, marking the first time two teams from the same city compete for that title.

The Windsor Star, Nov 25th: "...they (Rough Riders) have scored 189 points and only 24 have been scored against them."

1897
-The Ottawa Football Club is suspended by the QRFU for excessive rough play.

1894
-Ottawa College and Ottawa FC join the Quebec Rugby Football Union.

1891
-The Canadian Rugby Union is formed with Ottawa FC among its members.

1889
-Ottawa College departs the ORFU due to a disagreement and refuses to participate in the Canadian championship. The team instead plays exhibition games for the next two seasons.

1886
-Ottawa College wins its second ORFU Title by handing the Toronto Argonauts a 13-00 defeat.

1885
-Ottawa College begins a successful run in the Ontario Rugby Football Union, winning the championship in their first season by beating Ottawa City 21-03.

1884
-Ottawa College plays two significant games; its first-ever road game (against the Britannias of Montreal) and a home game against Harvard University.

1883
-The Ontario Rugby Football Union was formed on January 6 with Ottawa among its charter members. The Toronto Argonauts defeated the Ottawa FC 9-7 in the first ORFU Championship on November 10.

1881
-Ottawa College establishes its football team, organized by Edward O'Sullivan, who would also take on the roles of captain and coach. They play two games against the City of Ottawa, tying the first and winning the second.

1877
-The Ottawa Football Club play their first game against outside competition, hosting Britannia FC of Montreal.

1876
-The Ottawa Football Club is formed on September 20th at the Russell House and played the Aylmer Club at Jacques Cartier Square on September 23. (Sir) Percy Sherwood kicked a single for the winning point.
